Project update at Dovehouse Street

We are pleased to share an update of the works on-site at Dovehouse Street, Chelsea. The new luxury residential unit with extra care facilities scheme is being led by the global construction company Multiplex and designed by the leading architect’s PDP.

Over the past few weeks, we have been working hard on-site to install the first fix pipework to the pool walls and floor. Once the installation is completed, we will begin a thorough pressure test on the pipework.

The next stages of the project will see the swimming pool and vitality pool shell installation which will be formed traditionally using reinforced concrete including a waterproof additive.

Through the state-of-the-art facilities, residents will be able to enjoy the benefits of a specialist salt sauna whilst the vitality pool will boast the inclusion of a bespoke stainless-steel air bench and two reflexology massage stations.

We look forward to bringing you future updates on this exciting opportunity at Dovehouse Street.

Hammam case study

Our recent completion at The Langley Hotel and Spa introduced a traditional Turkish Hammam which the client wanted to incorporate natural sunlight beaming through the ceiling. APP was given the task to recreate this within the basement spa using cutting edge design to fabricate a bespoke dome formed from glass-reinforced gypsum, with CNC manufactured design to let light pass through, producing the illusion of natural sunlight entering the room, which to our knowledge has never been done before.

Over the years, APP has worked exceptionally hard to deliver state-of-the-art projects. We have faced several challenges when building and designing spas but through this, we have gained a huge amount of knowledge to execute our work. 1000’s of hours and continued commitment from our team result in the successful delivery for every project. If you feel we could be right for your spa development, then please contact us today to discuss your requirements.

The Aqua Club

The Headland – ‘The Aqua Club’

Works are well underway at our multi-million-pound project, The Headland Hotel, Newquay. With the project set to be completed mid Spring 2020 the hotel has released the name of the leisure complex as ‘The Aqua Club’ which will include a total of five pools including a 25 meter lap pool, an indoor vitality pool, children’s pool complete with jets and water mushroom, outdoor vitality pool and infinity spa.

This facility will mark the completion of a further phase in an ambitious programme of development at The Headland, which is celebrating 40 years under the ownership of John and Carolyn Armstrong.

Aqua Platinum has worked closely with architects Lilly Lewarne, to design and build these world-class facilities for the hotel. It has been an important factor to incorporate the gorgeous Cornish waterfront throughout the design and we have done so by including a ‘wavy’ wall in the lap pool and a beautiful, hybrid, infinity pool with an in-set that will focus on framing the idyllic waterfront.

Swimming Pool Rendering

Aqua Platinum is home to one of the largest teams of in-house swimming pool engineers, designers and consultants in the United Kingdom. Their extensive knowledge in swimming pool waterproofing, rendering and overall expertise in our niche industry allows us to produce pools and spas of the highest quality.

To make certain all of our pools and spas meet only the highest of expectations, our team must have an extensive knowledge of the construction process, this includes swimming pool waterproofing to ensure quality and longevity.

Swimming Pool Waterproofing

Our team of swimming pool engineers have decades of experience in swimming pool waterproofing, it is their job to ensure all of our swimming pools are efficient and watertight, to do this we use a swimming pool waterproofing method called rendering.

Swimming pool rendering differs from the typical rendering of a building, this is because the pool is under constant pressure, this pressure is caused by the water located within the swimming pool. By ensuring our pools are sufficiently waterproofed, we can prolong the longevity and see to it our clients receive the best possible end product.

The Pool Rendering Process

We begin our method of pool rendering with wetting the surface with water and applying a mixed waterproof solution that is mixed with concrete using either a brush or roller, this is then applied to the membrane of the tank. The second layer of the waterproofing solution and concrete will then be applied to the entire pool tank to ensure sufficient swimming pool waterproofing.

Once the waterproofing solution has set, a wet test will be carried out under inspection to make sure no leaks occur. The pool tank is then gradually filled and emptied over several days to reduce the chances of shocking the concrete.

An example of the process

To understand more about swimming pool rendering and the work carried out by our indoor swimming pool builders, take a look at the clip of the rendering carried out for the project located within The Headland Hotel.

APP London to Brighton Cycle Ride

This year APP is taking part in the London to Brighton Bike Cycle Ride for the chosen charity Epilepsy Action. This charity is very close to our hearts and here’s why…

In November 2018, I received a call from my son’s mobile, although it wasn’t Jack.  He had suffered a seizure at college and had been taken to hospital.  This was totally out of the blue.  He was 18 years of age and had no previous history of seizures.

It soon became apparent that as well as the tonic-clonic seizure he suffered at college, he was having several myoclonic seizures and absence seizures.  In December 2018, he was diagnosed with epilepsy, Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy (JME) to be precise.

It was a big shock, you think by the age of 18, you’d know. Jack started immediately on Anti-Epilepsy Drugs, gradually building himself up to his controlling dose.  So far they seem to be working, but that comes at a cost.

The meds make him extremely tired, affect his memory and have a big impact on his mood.  At 18 he should be having the time of his life, but instead, he has to be extremely responsible (epilepsy and too much alcohol aren’t a great combination) and add a late-night to the equation …….

In addition, after working hard and paying to pass his driving test, his license was revoked (and quite rightly so) until he is seizure-free for 12 months.  This for Jack has probably been the hardest part of being diagnosed.  He lost his independence and freedom, but like the trooper he is, he dealt/is dealing with it.

I am extremely proud of Jack.  Maybe it happened to Jack because he is a strong young man that can deal with it.  Maybe it happened to Jack because he has a family that can love and support him.  I don’t know, but it sucks.

So far Jack is lucky that the drugs seem to be working despite the side effects and that is what we as a family are concentrating on, however that is not the case for many people affected by epilepsy.  That is why I, along with friends have decided to take on the challenge of riding from London to Brighton (55 miles) and have chosen the charity Epilepsy Action.  This is a charity that improves the lives of everyone affected by epilepsy, giving advice, support, improved healthcare, funding for research and campaigning for change.

Any donation you can give to this amazing charity is much appreciated and I thank you in advance.

Matt

If you are able to donate to this great cause, it would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Our recent completion at The Langley Hotel & Spa

We are delighted to share images and an exclusive film of our recent completion within The Langley Hotel and Spa, Buckinghamshire spa complex where we were appointed as swimming pool design consultants and fitters.

Aqua Platinum Projects were approached 4 years ago to design this outstanding project, which is set to be the largest underground spa in Europe. After months of hard work and persistent dedication from our team across the board, we were awarded the Design and Build contract for the spa complex. It has been one of the most ambitious and high-end schemes we have completed and is likely to deliver the most diverse and high-quality collection of spa experiences in the country.

The world-class spa encompassing an impressive area of 1,600m2 includes a stunning 16m indoor swimming pool with an infinity edge, two vitality pools, three luxury steam rooms, a salt wall sauna, heated beds, ice fountains, experience showers, and two Hammams.

Cutting edge design and build

The Hammam which Aqua Platinum Projects has designed and built would typically be found in traditional Turkish spas using natural sunlight to beam through the ceiling. APP was given the task to recreate this within the basement spa using cutting edge design to fabricate a bespoke dome formed from glass-reinforced gypsum, with CNC manufactured design to let light pass through, producing the illusion of natural sunlight entering the room, which to our knowledge has never been done before.

Within the spa is a women’s only thermal area, which includes a steam room, sauna, two experience showers, vitality pool, heated beds, and an ice machine. This is the perfect area to relax and unwind. Additional facilities within the spa complex include a double hammam treatment room, VIP area for the utmost privacy and outside pool to enjoy in the warm English summer sun.

Thank you to our specialist team

1000’s of man-hours and continued commitment from the team have resulted in the successful delivery of this project. We would also like to thank every single member of the specialist team who helped to deliver this project, all our valued suppliers and Multiplex, who have been a pleasure to work with and we look forward to working together on our future projects.
